Congratulations to Anika Bharadwaj for being announced as February 2024 Senior of the Month.
Schaumburg High School is proud to announce Anika Bharadwaj as February’s Senior of the Month. Anika is an elite leader, student, and classmate who represents the best values of the Saxon community.
Anika excels academically. She has taken the most challenging courses throughout her high school career and excelled in each of them. Anika has been named National Merit Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar with distinction. Her teachers say that along with her intelligence and high performance on tests, her goodwill towards her classmates, active listening, and participation are her best academic contributions. Her classmates seek her out when forming work teams and studying groups She makes the classroom a better environment for her peers. She is clever and witty, but most of all she is curious and eager to learn. All of these traits make her a leader in the classroom who represents We Are SHS.
Along with her incredible academic success, Anika is a tireless leader in various extracurricular activities. Among her many contributions outside of the classroom, Anika served as Drum Major for the Saxon Marching Band this year. She is active in the music community as president of Tri-M Music Honor Society, a member of the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, and named to ILMEA District 7 for jazz (piano) and flute. She is also a member of NHS, HOSA, a Student Ambassador, Science Academic Competition Club’s recycling efforts and an editor of the yearbook. While many students participate in multiple clubs and activities, Anika’s devotion to each has helped change the school community. Looking at her time at SHS she says her biggest highlight has been playing and conducting “the SHS marching band at football games... Not only have I learned many lessons through challenging marching technique and conducting a big band, but I’ve also gained a huge sense of community from my band and also the school spirit alongside other students.”
All of the academic and extracurricular responsibilities require incredible time management skills, which Anika has worked hard to develop. She says that, “Keeping a balance is not as easy as it sounds and I’ve found that prioritizing what’s most important is key. I pick out my biggest passions and work on refining those the most both academically and extracurricularly. That way I find a natural balance and enjoy what I’m doing.”
Anika’s teachers describe her not only as an elite student, but as one who is humble and kind. One teacher said that “Anika couples humility with elite talent and performance better than any student that I have taught.” Her humble and cheerful demeanor works well with her desire to lead and help others. She plans to continue working in leadership roles in college and beyond. She is still deciding which college to attend and plans to major in public health.
